Skin brushing...for detox
Of all the easy ways available to remove toxins from the body, skin brushing should be near the top of the list. And, other than buying a suitable brush, it doesn’t cost any money. What could be easier than stroking your body all over with a simple brush to stimulate the removal of accumulated impurities? A skin detox could a part of most people’s routine. After all, most people take a bath or a shower at least a few times a week. Adding three to five minutes extra for a skin brushing to your showering routine should be an easy thing to do. Why is skin brushing so beneficial? The skin is our largest organ of detoxification. Skin pores get clogged by soap, conditioners, anti-perspirants, dead cells, cellulite, perspiration, surface toxins and polluted tap water. By stimulating the skin we can avoid placing an extra burden on the other organs of detoxification such as the liver. What happens when you do a skin detox regularly? There are many benefits: • It removes dead skin layers resulting in the rapid regeneration of new cells • It stimulates blood circulation • It promotes skin softness and a healthy look • It helps the removal of cellulite • It stimulates the glands • It helps to clean the lymphatic system • It stimulates the nervous system by acting upon the skin’s millions of nerve endings • It helps to create good muscle tone Skin brushing tips • First, buy a natural, bristle brush with a long handle. The brush should be designed specifically for this purpose. I use a brush which is slightly rough on my skin. • Before showering, take 3-5 minutes for the brushing routine • Brush vigorously starting with the soles of the feet. Try to use long strokes. Progress upwards brushing every part of your body. You will quickly find out though that some areas will require a more gentle approach. The face should be avoided. It is recommended that you always brush towards the heart. • End with a shower or a bath People who perform detoxification and cleansing routinely report that they experience greater mental clarity and less depression. This is not difficult to accept considering how the mind can influence the body and the body the mind. Skin detox is just one more way to create a feeling of physical well-being. I believe that, by building up your physical health through detoxification and nutritional cleansing, you will increase your chances of keeping depression from visiting you.
